According to a STAR Market Daily report on October 24, the 2026 Global Developer Pioneer Summit (GDPS) and International Embodied AI Skills Competition is under way in Shanghai, with more than 300 robot makers and 200-plus supply-chain companies. The competition has 9 tracks and 23 events, with about 1,000 humanoid robots from 800+ teams working in real-world scenarios such as energy inspection, quality inspection, supermarket retail, emergency rescue and elder and medical care; the retail event recreates a full Lianhua supermarket with randomly generated tasks such as receiving, shelf tidying, restocking and pick-and-pack. Gan Xiaobin of MIIT’s science and technology department said the ministry will focus on real demand and use competitions to drive adoption, and the China Electronics Standardization Institute released an embodied-AI evaluation benchmark and tools. Shanghai said its above-scale AI industry exceeded 330 billion yuan in the first half of 2026, up 22.6%.
